Clyde Gateway is Scotland’s biggest and most ambitious regeneration programme.
A partnership between Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Enterprise, and backed by funding and direct support from the Scottish Government, we have been tasked over a 20-year period to achieve unparalleled social, economic and physical change across communities within an area of 840 hectares in the east end of Glasgow and in Rutherglen.
We have already remediated 240 hectares of previously vacant and derelict land, built 64,000 square metres of business and industrial space and brought more than 5,000 jobs to the area and we invest around £150,000 each year in business support activities in areas as diverse as training, staff recruitment, product placement, marketing and communications. We have also helped create a number of assets to be enjoyed by the entire community, including the highly popular Cuningar Loop Woodland Park on the banks of the River Clyde just a mile from Rutherglen town centre, which attracted 120,000 visitors in 2017.

South Lanarkshire Works 4 U (SLW4U) is the employability skills pipeline managed by South Lanarkshire Council’s, Finance and Corporate Resources Employability Team.
SLW4U activity has proved to be a catalyst for new service development for unemployed people, making it easier for local businesses to connect with recruitment and support. There are a range of programmes offered to help unemployed back into the world of work.
Our upskilling initiative will support employees within the South Lanarkshire Area to undertake training or other activity that will lead to improved employment circumstances.
Lanarkshire Apprentice of the Year Award – Sponsored by Developing The Young Workforce
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is the Scottish Government’s national strategy for strengthening links between businesses and education to better prepare children and young people for the world of work. The headline aim of the programme is to encourage and support more employers to engage directly with schools and colleges to recruit more young people and promote diversity in their workforce.
The DYW Regional Group for Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire (DYW LED) was established in October 2017 to ensure that young people across the region have work relevant experience and opportunities while still at school. DYW collaborates with schools, to bring industry into the classroom, and give young people first-hand experience of the world of work.
